Alongside ace table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal, Sindhu is the first female athlete from India to win back-to-back Olympic gold. She will lead the Indian contingent as the flag bearer during the opening ceremony on July 26.

"I am also delighted to announce that India's only woman to win two Olympic medals, PV Sindhu, as the female flag-bearer alongside table tennis ace A Sharath Kamal in the opening ceremony," Usha said.

Kamal was designated as the flag carrier by IOA in March, but the selection of the female athlete was postponed. In 2020, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) modified its policy to let one athlete from each National Olympic Committee (NOC) to jointly carry the flag during the Summer Games' opening ceremony.

During the Tokyo Olympics, Mary Kom and former hockey captain Manpreet Singh represented India. "I am confident that our athletes are well prepared to deliver the best results for India in Paris 2024 Olympic Games," Usha said.

Over a hundred competitors have earned a spot in the Paris Games, which begin on July 26.

It's interesting to note that Narang, who placed third in the men's 10m air rifle competition in the London Olympics, was assigned to manage Indian activities at the shooting range, which is located quite a distance from the main venues.

With as many as 21 shooting athletes qualifying for the Games, India will field its largest-ever shooting contingent. Narang has been chosen to take up CDM's responsibilities, thus the IOA has to find someone to take his position at the range.
