In addition to the subscription video-on-demand platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime, OTT streaming platforms were brought into existence. The developing market of these streaming services has therefore become more competitive than ever before as the services featured myriads of movies, series, and even shows. Thus, consumers have more choices in shows and movies than others since they can decide which platforms they paid subscriptions to for the best available content.

Rise of Digital Cable and Satellite TV

In the early days, India's television industry was nearly dominated by the government-controlled Doordarshan. It was in the early 2000s when we witnessed a quick shift to the other sector, we can see a great improvement in the TV industry of India after they introduced the digital cable and also the satellite channels that pretentious most companies that were providing the digital cables to the viewers in India. Digital cable TV has been gaining popularity in India since the early 2000s, providing better picture and sound quality than the analog signals. Companies as Hathway, InCable, and Siti Cable gave the streaming of digital cable the push it needed to the next level. Besides the traditional cable network, the digital revolution provided consumers with a bigger pool of channels and on-demand content, so it was definitely a breakthrough considering that for such a long time television was the stronghold of a handful of state-running channels. The sudden growth of satellite TV was more striking were people adapted to the innovations. The Direct-to-Home (DTH) initiative, led by corporations such as Dish TV, Tata Sky, and Airtel Digital TV, became a sensation. They showed this type of service to the public in such a way that it had never been available before in the local market. What is more, they even admitted the method of pay-per-view, and thus, the public advanced with their viewing options due to this extension.

Popularity of DVDs

The rapid growth of cable and satellite TV in India led to the expansion of the DVD market. Renting a DVD player and video rental services became widely visible in the early 2000s. India even as video libraries started to be set up in many of the country’s towns and cities. This enabled viewers to have access to a huge variety of filmmaking and television entertainment from all over the world. DVD rental chains such as Video Palace and Rajshri Media were established to fulfill the burgeoning demand for entertainment through the house. Amongst other things, locals could get hold of the fresh Bollywood blockbusters, International content and TV series that were previously unavailable by them. Moreover, the sale of blank DVDs became a very popular market, with a variety of retail stores selling different movies. The increase in popularity of DVDs also caused the Indian film industry to get out of it. Moviemakers were the first to recognize that their contribution to video home release depends on the availability of other revenue lines similarly they pay attention to the matter. The fact that the Bollywood film and the Hollywood film industry had adopted DVDs made it easier for the two to be accessible to the general public as viewers could equally get access to the two.

Emergence of Early Streaming Services

With the dawn of the last decade, the entertainment industry began to change again with the birth of early streaming services. To express the start of the time when streaming was in its early days, the IT world used the term "streaming infancy" to mean new content consumption era.The initial lap of streaming services in India consisted of international players such as YouTube which allowed people all over the world to watch miscellaneous videos on the internet. Actually, the companies in the entertainment market started to be more prevalent. The companies themselves "BigFlix", ".tv", and "Reliance's BIG TV" started to rent movies and offer streaming services, but their content libraries were still very limited compared to the global companies. When streaming services first got into India, one of the major hiccups was the fact that the country has not yet had full internet connectivity, which was still in a developing state. The information technology industry as well experienced some restraints like slow broadband speeds having led music streaming services to the development of local music websites by organizations other than major record labels in India. One of the barriers in adding customers is the steep cost of data. The entertainment industry in India has been through its defining time from 2000 to 2010. The rise of digital cable and satellite TV, the proliferation of DVDs, and the nascent stage of streaming services created an immense shift in the way Indians took in media. These shifts not only made it possible to provide more diverse content for the viewers but also set the stage for the digital entertainment boom that occurred during the next decade. As technology advanced, the way people interacted with their most beloved movies, television shows also changed, and in this way, the entertainment sphere got even better and more diversified in India.

Rise of Streaming Services

The establishment of alternative consumption routes like streaming has mainly been touted as the most distinct movement in the media industry. The enjoyers of video on demand streaming like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ gain a benefit over the standard way of TV consumption as they can select and stream shows and movies according to their preferences. Furthermore, the input of the on-demand aspect that streaming services provide has made it possible to preselect shows for viewing choice-even before they are premiered on network-wide last-picque by networks-platforms and helping generate better content quality, hence, raising the user choices. In a similar move to what happened earlier with CDs and floppy discs, where consumers left these formats in favor of the more space-saving and quicker options as digital music and thumb drives, we are now seeing a continuation of media digitization. Recess, the platform for hiring creatives in the design space, saw sales declines and layoffs among most of its stakeholders due to the recession.

Emergence of Smart TVs

Smart TVs are one of the most important elements of the streaming/television add-on revolution. Smart TVs have become the guardians that connect you to the outside world by having everything including Netflix, Hulu, and subscriptions on lifestyles & entertainment like amazon. The supplication and uninstallation of the apps, use of the voice command function and etc. can be done using the touch screen. The entire ecosystem has seen price moderations, memory capabilities, operation improvements, and high-quality 4k displays. In addition, voice control features have become and AI recommendations have been part of the TV set for user-friendly use.

AI and Personalization

One cannot imagine the media and entertainment industry today without the AI technology which is one of the biggest sources of the personalization revolution. AI (Artificial Intelligence) algorithms monitor the user's behavior, preferences, and visiting patterns to furnish more suitable content recommendations. This system of personalization gives the user new ways of finding other content that is most consistent with the individual's tastes. The fact that the streaming platforms use AI to pin personalized watchlists, suggest shows and movies which are rather relevant, or come up with ideas like what one should watch depending on his/her mood or time of day is a key factor of their popularity. Additionally, artificial intelligence-powered applications are also employed for content processing like automated video editing and CGI, which overall results in the method being less time-consuming, user-friendlier, and more appealing to the consumers.

Most Entertaining Event - IPL

On April 18, 2008, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was full of excitement as the Indian Premier League (IPL) was first played. In the beginning, the idea of buying and selling the players without having any physical assets was just an investment in the sky. Fourteen years later, IPL has become a recession-proof brand, attracting immense value and sponsorships. The league's charm lies in its constant appeal, independent of India's performance in international tournaments. Unlike the World Cup, which can lose interest if India is eliminated, the IPL ensures year-round engagement. Fan loyalty has evolved, with franchises developing dedicated followings and significant merchandise sales. Turning cricket players who are not known at all into the biggest stars is the main essence of the IPL besides other things such as its pan-Indian reach and its great ability to harness and even export talent. It has been here for 15 years now and it is growing from year to year. It has become not only the global center but also the latest show in cricket.

To conclude, the media and entertainment landscape has been enormously transformed since the 2010s due to the development of such devices as Smart TV, streaming services and the swift shift to various devices. The combination of AI and personalization has played a part in this change making the industry offer a more bespoke and interactive experience to the users. The advance of technology is a natural process that will become even more attention-grabbing as these trends develop into the future and we can only wonder what new things will emerge in the media-tech world.
