Anand Gets a Gen Z Makeover with Gukesh in Myntra Ad
Myntra's latest ad brings a fun and light-hearted twist, featuring India's chess legends, Gukesh Dommaraju and Viswanathan Anand. In this playful commercial, Anand is hilariously trying to pick up Gen Z slang from the younger Gukesh, showcasing a charming blend of generations and a lot of laughs.
The ad opens with Gukesh getting a tattoo at a studio, while Anand relaxes nearby. Casually, Anand asks him how it feels to be a world champion. Gukesh, with a playful smile, jokes about how people always ask him about the World Chess Championship trophy. He teasingly adds, “You can touch the trophy if you want.”
Anand, with a quick wit, responds, “Touch? Mere paas paanch hain! (I have five of them). Want to touch four more?” This humorous exchange sets the playful tone for the rest of the ad.
The conversation then takes a turn as Anand asks Gukesh for help connecting with Gen Z and learning their lingo. Gukesh pauses, a bit unsure, and responds that it's not easy, especially at "his age."
Realizing his words might sound rude, Gukesh quickly clarifies, “… at your stature, I meant.” He then explains that grasping pop culture is key to understanding Gen Z.
To show he’s not out of touch, Anand stands up and strikes a Michael Jackson pose, proudly saying, “I know Michael Jackson.” Amused but unconvinced, Gukesh advises Anand to shop for “Gen Z” fashion on Fwd by Myntra.
He humorously suggests that even if Anand can’t quite master the lingo, his trendy outfits, or "drip," might help him connect with the younger generation. He then recommends Anand shop at Fwd by Myntra.
Produced by the advertising agency Braindad, the ad combines humor with a message about bridging generational gaps and staying stylish, highlighting Fwd by Myntra as the ultimate destination for contemporary fashion.
In December 2024, Gukesh made history as the youngest World Chess Champion, defeating Ding Liren in the World Championship held in Singapore. A member of the WestBridge Anand Chess Academy, co-founded by Viswanathan Anand, this marks his second brand endorsement, following RBL Bank.
