BCCI Schedules Special Meeting on March 1 to Appoint Joint Secretary
The BCCI has called a Special General Meeting (SGM) on March 1 in Mumbai for the appointment of a new joint secretary to fill the vacancy created after the elevation of Devjit Saikia to the position of the board secretary.
After Jay Shah became the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1, the secretary's post was taken over by Saikia of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) last month.
The BCCI sent the notice for the SGM to the state associations with a single-item agenda.
In a statement, the Apex board stated, "Notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting (hereinafter referred to as SGM) of the BCCI which will be held at 12:00PM IST on March 1, 2025, at BCCI headquarters at Mumbai, to transact the business of Election and Induction of the Joint Secretary of BCCI."
The names doing the rounds for the position include that of Avishek Dalmiya, former president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), from the East Zone; Rohan Jaitley, president of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), from the North Zone; and Sanjay Naik, president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), from the West Zone.
There will be no election of the joint secretary for the board, as was in the case of BCCI's secretary and treasurer.
In compliance with the rules, SGM notices require 21 days for call and the Indian BCCI has strictly followed this requirement.
This will be the second SGM to be held within a short time of less than two months after the first SGMs which took place on January 12 whereby Saikia was elected the new secretary while Prabhtej Singh Bhatia became the new treasurer-unopposed both.
The undertaking of various administrative jobs is on the plate of the Joint Secretary, who works closely with the other board members to facilitate the smooth and effective functioning of its operations.
