BookMyShow Lodges FIR for Black Marketing of Coldplay Concert Tickets

On Thursday, online ticket aggregator BookMyShow announced that it has filed an FIR against British rock band Coldplay for black marketing of tickets to their gigs. In a statement, the business stated that it is considering canceling tickets that are being offered "unethically".

"In its ongoing fight against ticket scalping and black marketing of tickets for Coldplay's Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, BookMyShow filed a formal FIR (First Information Report) on October 2, 2024."

"This action followed our proactive complaint submitted with the Mumbai Police on September 23, 2024, which addressed these concerns well before any formal complaint was lodged against us.

"BookMyShow's FIR filed with the Mumbai police also urges authorities to investigate the unauthorised resale of tickets by individuals and platforms," the statement read. The highly anticipated Coldplay concert in Mumbai in January 2025 has been overshadowed by fears about ticketing scams, as millions of fans fought for a restricted quantity of tickets and took to social media to express their frustration.

Some of the tickets were later sold on the black market for significantly higher prices, prompting an investigation by Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW). The band's "Music of the Spheres World Tour 2025" will include three gigs at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium on January 18, 19, and 21 of next year.

Earlier this week, the Mumbai police recorded the statement of Anil Makhija, BookMyShow's chief operating officer, in connection with an investigation. The firm clarified that Coldplay's gigs in India will go forward as planned.

"Reports contrary to this are factually incorrect," claimed the agency. BookMyShow stated that it has provided information on all resellers that have come to its knowledge, including independent persons reselling tickets via social media platforms.

"We remain vigilant in monitoring such instances of ticket reselling for this tour through black market channels and will continue to share all relevant information with the authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken," according to the statement.
