NFL Christmas Day Games will Stream on Netflix This December 25
The first Christmas Day treating sports fans with the biggest Christmas present will come from Netflix. The two largest national football league games of the season will be broadcasted on Netflix this Christmas Day in 2024. The Kansas City Chiefs, reigning Super Bowl LVIII winners, will face the Pittsburgh Steelers, while Baltimore Ravens go against the Houston Texans.
This move emphasizes Netflix's growing focus on live sports, complemented by major performances during the games. Just a few days earlier, WWE, the popular sports entertainment brand, said it would be bringing its media rights to India from Sony Pictures Networks India to Netflix India.
Christmas Day on Netflix will feature a series of live performances in the indoor NFL games as part of the merry celebrations. Everything will kick off with a new rendition of Mariah Carey's ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You.’ The anthem at the Chiefs vs. Steelers game will be performed by a quartet of retired military veterans called Voices of Service. The Grammy winning group Pentatonix will later perform an anthem during the Ravens vs. Texans game in Houston. It is a halftime show where Beyoncé will showcase some newly released tracks from her Cowboy Carter album.
All Netflix plans will have included access to the games, which will also be aired locally within each team's home and away markets and streamed on NFL+ for all mobile users.
In the U.S., Netflix will feature the NFL Christmas games for three hours after airing live. People in other countries will have a 24-hour window after broadcasting.
Christmas games have been played in the NFL for the first time back in 1971 but were brought back and played on a semi-regular basis from 1989 onward. Since 2020, Christmas day matchups in the NFL have become an unfailing holiday tradition. Last year, the three games also made it to the top in the list of the most watched TV programs of 2023. To note, the game Raiders vs. The Chiefs, witnessed by Taylor Swift and Santa Claus, attracted the highest Christmas Day viewership since 1988.
To this day, the NFL is celebrating its 30th Christmas game. Netflix Christmas Day matchups will carry on this tradition by airing in the local markets of the contending towns and have been made available on U.S. mobile devices via NFL+.
