Netflix’s foray into live sports streaming saw a combination of success as well technical issues while its streaming event featured Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. The boxing match attracted a large audience of 65 million viewers world widely, marking a remarkable achievement for Netflix. Netflix declared that 60 million households globally watched the boxing match, with streams peaking at 65 million. This positions Netflix as a formidable player in the live sports streaming market.

Further, approximately 50 million households tuned in for the co-main match between Ireland’s Katie Taylor and Puerto Rico’s Amanda Serrano, which Netflix declares the most viewed professional women’s sporting event in US history.

According to reports, despite the success, the event was ruined by many technical problems, with over 90,000 users reporting issues while the live stream. Complaints centered on video streaming 87 percent, server connections 12 percent, and login issues 1 percent. The outage, which lasted about six hours in the United States, was resolved by Saturday.

In the ring, Jake Paul appeared victorious over Mike Tyson with a 79-73 decision. After initially struggling, Paul took control from the third round, avoiding Tyson from regaining momentum. Paul explained the event as an enormous success, acknowledging the site crash as proof of its impact. After the fight, a video from Netflix showed Paul giving respect to Tyson.

The success of the Paul-Tyson event recommends Netflix’s potential to impact the live sports streaming platform. However, addressing technical issues is crucial for providing better screening experiences in upcoming events.
